Shipping Timeline Explained

Overview

The Shipping Timeline provides a visual chronological record of every significant event in your package's journey from warehouse to customer doorstep. Each milestone is logged with precise timestamps and location information, creating a complete audit trail of the fulfillment process. This timeline helps you understand exactly where a package is, how it got there, and what happens next.

Timeline Milestones

The shipping journey progresses through standard milestones that apply to most international shipments:

  • Shipment information received: Order details transmitted to carrier system
  • Arrived at origin facility: Package received at first sorting center
  • Departed from sort facility: Package left for next destination
  • In transit to next facility: Moving between processing centers
  • International flight departed: Left origin country via air transport
  • International flight arrived: Arrived in destination country
  • In clearance processing: Undergoing customs inspection
  • Clearance completed: Released from customs
  • Delivered to local carrier: Handed off for final-mile delivery
  • Out for delivery: Driver dispatched to delivery address
  • Delivered: Successfully delivered to recipient

Reading the Timeline

The timeline displays events in reverse chronological order with the most recent event at the top. Each event card shows:

  • Event description: What happened (e.g., "Arrived at GOFO Regional Destination Facility")
  • Location: Where it occurred (e.g., "Angers" or "PARIS, FR")
  • Timestamp: Exact date and time of the event

Timeline Status Indicators

The timeline integrates with order status to provide context. At the top of the tracking view, a status badge shows the current overall state:

  • Delivered (green): Package successfully delivered
  • In Transit (blue): Package moving through carrier network
  • Out for Delivery (blue): With driver for final delivery
  • Processing (yellow): Being prepared at warehouse
  • Customs Hold: Awaiting customs clearance

Viewing Timeline from Order Details

Access the shipping timeline from any order's detail view. Click an order number in the All Orders table to open the detail modal. For shipped orders, the modal displays tracking information including the Primary Tracking Number and the most recent tracking event. Click "Track This Order" to open the full tracking page with complete timeline.

Estimated Delivery

For in-transit packages, the tracking view may display an estimated delivery date based on carrier projections. This estimate considers the shipping route, service level, and current package location.

Handling Delays

When delays occur, the timeline reflects them through specific events. Customs holds show clearance processing events without corresponding completion events. Carrier delays may appear as extended gaps between facility events or explicit delay notifications.
