TikTok Shop fulfillment from China: rules and delivery windows

TikTok Shop sets a hard delivery window on every order. See what it requires, whether shipping from China can meet it, and how to stay compliant.

TikTok Shop enforces a delivery window on every order. It does not make an exception for where the product ships from. In the United States, sellers must get a first delivery attempt to the customer within 6 business days for Standard and Free Economy shipping. Express orders need a first attempt within 3 business days, and 95 percent of orders must land inside whichever window you use. Miss it too often and TikTok can restrict your shipping options or your account.

This guide is for a Shopify merchant who sells or is about to sell through TikTok Shop and sources or fulfills products in China. It covers what the rule actually says, whether shipping straight from China can meet it, and what happens when a video goes viral overnight. It also covers the setup that keeps your account in good standing.

What TikTok Shop requires on delivery time

TikTok Shop's US shipping policy sets two clocks. The first is handling time: how long you have to confirm the order, pack it, and upload a valid tracking number. The second is the delivery clock itself, measured from the moment the order is placed.

For US sellers running their own shipping, a program TikTok calls Seller Shipping, the delivery requirement is 3 business days for Express. Standard and Free Economy need 6 business days. TikTok requires a 95 percent on time delivery rate on whichever option you choose. A package with no carrier scan for 10 calendar days, or 7 business days, counts as lost.

Tracking has to be accurate the first time. TikTok's own policy says a seller who enters the wrong tracking number or carrier is responsible for the resulting losses and penalties. A correction is allowed only once before you need support to step in.

None of this is a suggestion. TikTok scores every seller on metrics tied directly to these clocks. A low score can cost you the ability to offer Express, or hurt your standing on the platform.

Can you ship from China? By market

Here is the part most guides skip. TikTok Shop's own US shipping policy states plainly that cross border orders are not supported on the US platform. A cross border order is one where the parcel starts its journey outside the US. Only local to local, domestic shipping counts toward the delivery clock above.

That rules out the simplest version of the question. You cannot list a product on TikTok Shop US and ship it straight from a China warehouse once the order comes in. That will not meet the delivery rule, because the clock assumes the parcel already started inside the country.

What still works is keeping the inventory that ships to US customers inside the US. The rest of your supply chain, sourcing, quality checks, and restocking, can stay in China. Some sellers use TikTok's own Fulfilled by TikTok program for this. Others keep a Shopify store and connect TikTok Shop as a sales channel. They fulfill through a US location while sourcing and holding backup stock in China.

Other TikTok Shop markets run their own shipping policy. Each policy is published separately in that market's Seller Center. A market with its own cross border listing option can carry a longer delivery window, built around international transit instead of a domestic one.

The window and the eligibility rules are set per market, and they change without much notice. Check your own market's policy before you commit stock to a plan built on assumptions.

One thing does not change by market: import duty on a China origin parcel still applies wherever the order lands. That cost now shows up on almost every order, after de minimis exemptions were removed in several major markets. Our guide to what changed when US de minimis ended works through the landed cost math.

Handling viral spikes

A TikTok video does not warn you before it takes off. A product that sold 8 units yesterday can sell 400 today, and the delivery clock keeps running exactly as before.

Consider a hypothetical example: a phone accessories store normally fulfilling 20 orders a day gets featured in a creator video. It wakes up to 600 orders the next morning. If that inventory sits only in China, the store cannot simply air freight a batch to catch up. The parcels will not clear customs, get relabeled, and reach a US carrier inside a 6 business day window.

The order backlog turns into a wave of missed delivery dates. That drags the account's on time delivery rate down right when the spike should have been a win.

The setups that survive a spike keep proven, already selling products stocked ahead of time, rather than reacting after the video hits. We do not charge for storage and there is no minimum order. A store can hold a working stock of its best sellers in China at no ongoing cost. Replenishing a US location or a Fulfilled by TikTok warehouse does not wait on a new purchase order and a factory run. New products can still be sourced and tested in smaller batches while the winners stay stocked.

Tracking and late shipment penalties

TikTok ties account health directly to the numbers behind the delivery clock. A Valid Tracking Rate below TikTok's threshold, a rising late shipment count, or a stretch of missed delivery windows can each trigger a warning. Repeated violations can bring a restriction on which shipping options you can offer, or in a repeated pattern, a suspension.

The mechanics are close to what we cover in our piece on slow shipping and chargebacks. A late order costs you twice: once in the platform penalty, and again in the refund or chargeback a frustrated customer files. TikTok Shop adds a third cost, because a bad account health score can shrink your reach before you have spent a dollar on ads.

A simple example: say a store ships 200 TikTok Shop orders a month and 12 of them arrive late. That is a 94 percent on time rate, under the 95 percent bar TikTok sets. The fix is rarely one big change. It is usually the same kind of order getting stuck the same way each month. The cause is often one of three things. A supplier ships without scanning in, a carrier lane runs slow into one state, or tracking numbers get entered by hand and mistyped.

A setup that keeps your shop in good standing

Three things matter more than any single shipping speed claim.

  • Keep the parcel that reaches a TikTok Shop customer inside the country that market requires. Do not try to route a live order internationally after the sale to meet a domestic clock.
  • Stock ahead of demand, not after it. Your best selling products should already be sitting in the location that ships to customers before a video makes them your best sellers.
  • Get tracking numbers into the system correctly the first time. A wrong tracking number is treated as your fault even when the shipment itself was fine.

Underneath all three is the same requirement: a supply chain in China fast enough that restocking a domestic location stays routine, not an emergency. We source products from a link, a photo, or a sample. We ship what reaches our warehouse within 24 hours. We hand you a landed price and shipping lines within hours of a quote request. A restock decision does not need to sit in your inbox for a week.

Common mistakes

Treating TikTok Shop like a normal Shopify order. The delivery clock and the account health score are platform specific. An order that is fine on your own site can still fall below TikTok's threshold if it ships slower than the platform's window.

Waiting for a product to go viral before stocking it. By the time the order volume shows up in your dashboard, the stock decision needed to be made already.

Entering tracking numbers by hand at volume. A single typo is treated as the seller's fault, and correcting it after the fact takes a support ticket instead of a quick fix.

Assuming every market runs the same rule. A delivery window that works in one TikTok Shop market can be wrong in another. Eligibility for cross border listings differs by market too.

Frequently asked questions

Can I dispatch a TikTok Shop US order directly from a China warehouse?

No. TikTok Shop's US shipping policy does not support cross border tracking on its domestic Seller Shipping program. The parcel that reaches a US customer needs to already be moving domestically when it ships.

Does Fulfilled by TikTok solve the China shipping problem?

It solves the location problem, since your stock sits in a TikTok fulfillment center inside the country you sell to. It does not solve the restocking problem. You still need a fast, reliable way to keep that stock replenished, which is where a China based supply chain does the work.

What counts as a late shipment on TikTok Shop?

An order counts as late once it misses its selected delivery window. That means the first delivery attempt happens after 3 business days on Express, or after 6 business days on Standard and Free Economy. TikTok also treats a package with no carrier scan for 10 calendar days as lost.

Do the same delivery rules apply if I sell TikTok Shop through Shopify instead of TikTok's own seller center?

The order still runs through TikTok Shop's checkout. It still needs tracking synced back to TikTok. The same delivery clock and account health scoring apply, regardless of which storefront you manage the listing from.

Is the US the only TikTok Shop market with strict domestic only shipping?

The US policy is explicit about ruling out cross border orders. Other markets publish their own shipping policy separately, and some support cross border listings with a different delivery window. Check the Seller Center for the specific market you sell into rather than assuming one rule covers all of them.

Getting the setup right before you scale

TikTok Shop rewards speed and punishes guessing. The merchants who keep clean account health treat the delivery window as a supply chain problem. They solve it months in advance, not order by order.

That means three things. Proven sellers already stocked where they need to be. A sourcing partner in China who can restock that position without a week of back and forth. A plan for the untested products that does not put your whole account at risk.
